Inside the Creative, Colourful World of Artist and Mum Prudence Caroline

From painting to interiors, Prudence Caroline’s creativity continues to grow — inspiring the beautiful spaces she has always loved to study and create.

Can you tell us a little about you and your family:

I have two kiddies, Theodore (Teddy), 11, and Luella, 7, together with my husband, Damian.

What was your biggest adjustment when becoming a mum?

The changes in my work output, and the yo-yoing guilt between feeling guilty for not working enough or guilty for not spending enough time with my growing babies.

How do you manage the juggle when it comes to trying to do it all?

Haha, as above! It’s getting easier now that they’re both at school, although the working day (school day!) is short. I do try to get up early to help stretch out the day.

What is the best thing about being a mum?

I still get the big run-up cuddle – pure joy!

What has been your biggest challenge as a mum?

Having to give up so much of myself, which now even extends to losing my shoes to my 11-year-old and rarely being in control of the music in the car!

What surprised you the most when becoming a mum?

How much of myself I’d see in them, but at the same time, how much they are very much their own little creative beings.

What do you wish you knew before becoming a mum?

That I’d actually find the newborn stage easy!

If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself or others?

Try not to worry quite so much.

Do you have any tips or tricks to manage the day-to-day juggle?

I still really love writing things down on paper. I make a list and prioritise what needs to be done, then cross things off. It gives great satisfaction!

How do you manage your time to fit in career, being a mum, relationship, and time for you?

I make Pilates the first thing I do in the morning, before the kids are awake. If I don’t do it then, it doesn’t happen. The school hours are for work, and weekends we spend as a family.

Who is in your village, and who couldn’t you live without?

My mum and dad, who live close by. They are not only my parents but also my BFFs!

The 5 things in your bag you can’t leave home without:

  • My LV Diary
  • Caramex Lip Balm- Addicted
  • Le Labo Rose 31 Perfume
  • Aesop Han Cream and Sanitizer
  • Panadol

Your favourite holiday spot is…

Byron Bay, Wategos Beach. My first trip to Byron was for schoolies, I’ve since returned under very different conditions!

Why do you love it?

It’s buzzing with creative energy in Byron Bay. The weather’s (mostly) fab, there are so many foodie hot spots, and I love a morning walk to the lighthouse.

What location is at the top of your wish list to travel to next?

Southern Italy.

What is your favourite brand and why?

That’s a tricky one! I love everyday basics with a splash of fun pattern and colour. With that said, I’d have to say GANNI.

The trend you’re loving right now?

Oversized, although I think sometimes I may take this too far… haha!

The trend you can’t get on board with?

Super low-rise pants. I no longer wish to be holding up my trousers as I walk, thank you.

What’s your latest brand discovery?

The Tiny Big Sister, the mum-sized version of Tiny Cottons.

Where do you do most of your fashion shopping?

Online, unfortunately, although I do love in-store shopping! When I’m in Melbourne, I always find something at INCU.

What does a healthy lifestyle mean to you?

Spin class at 5am, a productive workday, quality time with my family, and a Friday night champagne!

What do you do to keep your body moving?

Pilates, spin, and walking.

What are your top 5 tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle?

  1. Try to get outside as much as possible.
  2. Don’t overeat.
  3. Don’t overdrink!
  4. Spend time with people who make you happy.
  5. I like things neat at home — when my home’s messy, my brain feels messy!

What are your non-negotiables when it comes to health and wellness?

AGE Mate supplement in the morning and magnesium before bed.

What does the word ‘balance’ mean to you?

A heap of broccoli… and a chocolate chip cookie.

What inspired you to become an artist?

I started painting for fun, and only started taking it seriously when I began getting requests from family and friends. Before being an artist, I was a make-up artist.

What’s the best thing about being an artist?

I now do way more than just paint ‘art’. There are so many ways I can be creative.

What’s the most challenging thing about being an artist?

Continuing on from above, sometimes the fact that there are so many ways to be creative can be a bad thing!

I have too many ideas, and I can get bored of one before I’ve given it a chance to blossom.

And, (this is not just restricted to artists), but there’s just not enough time in the day!

Interior design and styling are now part of your creative world. What led you to that?

These opportunities have come from sharing my homes (past and present) on the ever-powerful Instagram. Creating gorgeous spaces to live in is something I’ve enjoyed ‘studying’ my entire life.

Do you have any exciting projects or art pieces coming up you can share with us?

Lots of newness coming to my online store, and I’ll also be expanding on some of my established collections soon.
