Five years ago, I swapped Melbourne’s laneways and coffee haunts for beautiful beaches and coastal walks, and I haven’t looked back. Noosa isn’t just a holiday destination; it’s a lifestyle. A breath of fresh, sea-salty air. A laidback rhythm that forces you to slow down and soak it all in.

And it’s not just for summer, Noosa’s magic works year-round. Here’s how to do it like a local.
Why Noosa?
Think flat long stretches of white sand (Noosa Main Beach is one of the only north-facing beaches on the east coast), calm crystal blue water, lush national parks, dolphins playing just offshore, and an ever-evolving food scene that’s a mix of fine dining and approachable casual cafes. And it’s all so easy! Noosa is such an easy destination to visit. When I used to live in Melbourne, I loved visiting Noosa because it’s such a short, easy flight (from Melbourne or from Sydney), and door-to-door you can leave home and be on Noosa main beach within a matter of hours. The beach is flat and the waves are generally small, so it’s so kid-friendly and makes a day on the beach actually relaxing. While you can also still catch some epic waves if you’re looking for good surf, whether it be around at Tea Tree Bay or over at Sunshine Beach. I love the convenience of it too – everything is within a 5km radius, which makes getting around and experiencing the best of Noosa so easy.
Where to Stay
Looking for the perfect base? Noosa has something for everyone.
- Best Swim-Up Bar Pool: The brand new Elysium Noosa Resort – formally the Sofitel Hotel, Elysium has just re-opened after a multi-million dollar refurbishment. It’s one of the most modern and more beautiful hotels in Noosa, and in a super convenient location (on Hastings St, across the road from the beach). Plus, Elysium has one of Noosa’s best pool areas and even has a swim-up bar!
- Beachfront with the Best Views: Netanya, Seahaven and Tingirana. All three of these resorts offer absolute beachfront apartments that serve up those pinch-me views of Noosa Main Beach. Plus, book a ground floor apartment at Seahaven or Netanya and you are steps away from the hotel pool which your trusty baby monitor can reach, so you can be poolside while bub naps back in your room.
- Noosa River Vibes: Aqua Linea – Want to mix it up from Hastings St or Noosa Main Beach, then you’ll love Noosa River as a great alternative. You get the beauty of waterfront accommodation (watch the ferry and the boats cruise past from your balcony all day), but it’s a little quieter and a little more space, while still only a 15-20 min walk to Hastings St. Book via Accom Noosa (and they’ve got plenty of other properties to choose from too).
- Hidden Gems: Little Cove and Sunshine Beach – Away from busy Hastings St, these two areas are becoming increasingly popular and deliver different experiences to each other. For some of the best, more premium homes in the area, check out Noosa Secret Destinations and Noosa Luxury Holidays. AirBnb is also a great option to find a large family-size home, perfect for longer stays, or if you’re just after something a little different to the standard Main Beach hotels.
Where to Eat (and Drink!)
Noosa’s food and drink scene is up there with some of the best, and it’s not all fancy white tablecloths! These are my current obsessions:
- Sabrosa Dim Sum House – In Noosa Junction. It’s casual, fun, and ridiculously delicious. The vibe is like your cool mate’s dinner party with better dumplings. Plus, there’s a DJ booth with music spinning all night, which is a nice change for often quiet-town Noosa.
- Theo’s Social Club – Also in the Junction. It’s run by husband-and-wife legends Gabby and Jake (chef), and is the perfect wine bar-meets-bistro that nails food and atmosphere.
- Ricky’s – Fancy and perfect for a special occasion (or just because), it’s one of my all-time faves. Skip the Uber and catch a boat directly to the private jetty. A full Noosa moment.
- Halse Lodge – Hands-down Noosa’s best beer garden, Halse is an easy-going, relaxed beachside pub, with an impressive (and affordable) elevated pub-style menu and yummy cocktails. Come here straight after a day at the beach, or a for a fun night out.
- TIDA Japanese Table only recently opened and is such an exciting addition to Noosa Junction. It’s a super small space for an intimate dining experience, but also very casual, relaxed and welcoming. It’s simple, delicious authentic Japanese.
- Sails – Beachfront dining at its best. Consistently excellent, both food and service is always a winner.
- Seabourne Distillery – A super cool, modern gin distillery located in the Noosa industrial area. Sit up at the bar, or grab a table out the front and enjoy some of the most delicious and most unique gin cocktails you’ve ever tried.
- El Capitano – Want something casual and easy? Travelling with kids? El Capitano has had a recent renovation, so sitting-in is pretty nice. Or grab a takeaway pizza and enjoy it on the beach. Other good takeaway options for an easy beach dinner: Betty’s Burger, a rice bowl from Raw+Rice and Grill’d.
- Noosa Boathouse – They’ve just renovated the area out the front, so now you can pull up a seat to enjoy your takeaway fish & chips, or just enjoy it picnic-style on the river. Easy, relaxed, and full holiday-mode-activated.
- The Stonebowl, Gympie Terrace Noosaville – one of the most authentic Vietnamese dining experiences in Noosa. Fresh, easy, delicious food, and they also do takeaway lunch.
- The Classics:
These ones are super popular for a reason. Often hard to get a table (calling is always better than trying to book online, or try a walk-in as soon as they open at 5pm):- Bang Bang – Always buzzing, incredible modern Asian and next-level cocktails.
- Light Years – Family-friendly (grab the early-sitting & there’s a kids’ menu), Asian fusion that never disappoints.
- Sum Yung Guys – Iconic. One of my faves. Their Crispy Rice Miang lives rent-free in my mind, and I literally crave it at least once a week!
Local Secrets
- Best Sandwich: Tuckshop in Noosa Junction. Life-changing sandwiches. No joke.
- Best Coffee: Sunshine Social in Sunshine Beach. Run by ex-Melbournians who know coffee.
- Best Facial: Sanctum Medical Aesthetics in Noosa Junction. Think beautiful facials, skin treatments and massages, with an equally beautiful expert team.
- Best Sunset Spot: Head to Noosa Spit (at the very end of Hastings St, where the rivermouth meets the ocean). Always such a vibe on the beach (often backpackers are playing music straight out of their vans), pack some drinks and some food, and watch the sunset over the water.
- Best Place For A Dance (& A Sunset): Jump on board the Catalina and float down the Noosa River – dance the night away on the water, enjoy delicious cocktails, dance to some of Noosa’s best DJs while watching the sun go down.
- Markets: Noosa Farmers Market on a Sunday is my weekly fave, I’m there every weekend. The most incredible food stalls – look out for a new addition, The Good Sandos. Eumundi Markets are worth the short drive on a Saturday. Go early, grab coffee, and explore the stalls.
- Noosa National Park: Pack water and do the coastal track. You’ll spot turtles, dolphins, and maybe a sleepy koala if you’re lucky.
Noosa is one of those places that finds its way under your skin. You come for the beaches, but stay for the feeling it gives you. I used to visit each year (from Melbourne), and now I pinch myself that I get to call this place home. Whether it’s a solo recharge, a family getaway, or a romantic weekender, Noosa truly delivers every time.
