Style is such a personal thing. Ask ten people what it means and you’ll get ten different answers, and that’s exactly what makes it so beautiful. Like art, it’s subjective. You’re drawn to what you love, and that’s all that really matters. For me, style is a reflection of how I feel inside. It’s less about what’s trending and more about what makes me feel good and shows who I truly am.
I’ve loved style for as long as I can remember. Apparently, even as a young child, I had very strong opinions about it — just ask my mum. She still laughs (slightly traumatised) about the way I’d greet her friends with:
“What are you wearing? I don’t like that!” Mortifying now, obviously. I’d never dream of being so blunt these days… but then I look at my eight-year-old daughter and realise the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. She knows exactly what she likes — and what she doesn’t — and she’s unapologetic about it. I secretly love that about her.
I’ve always had a clear sense of what I like and don’t like when it comes to fashion. I’ve never been indecisive or easily swayed. Whether I was a teenager experimenting in front of the mirror or a new mum trying to make 15 minutes of sleep look intentional, my core style has stayed pretty consistent. Yes, priorities shift as life changes, but the essence of my style has always felt true to me.
If I had to describe my personal style, I’d say it’s effortlessly chic, with a strong love for colour, paired back with denim or a solid staple. I love a printed dress or a statement piece that instantly lifts my mood, and hopefully brings a bit of brightness to those around me, too.
More than anything, I’ve always chosen pieces that suit my lifestyle and my body shape. I’ve never felt the need to force a look that doesn’t work for where I’m at in life.
And while I admire other people’s style, especially those who take risks or lean into trends, it’s never made me want to dress like someone else. Style, for me, has always been about feeling like me. And I think that’s where confidence comes from — not whether someone else approves, but whether you feel aligned in what you’re wearing.
I also really love seeing what other people wear, even if it’s totally different to my own style. I admire people who dress in a way that clearly reflects their personality, whether it’s high-end designer or vintage from the local market. It’s never about labels or price tags. It’s about how someone pulls it together, and how they wear it — that’s what makes it stylish.
Of course, we all get inspired by trends and influencers, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
But for me, true style is how something makes you feel. The inside-out effect is real. When you feel good internally, it shines through.
The brands I choose to shop with also reflect that connection. I gravitate towards labels that feel aligned with my lifestyle, my values, and who I am as a woman and a mother.
Like art, style is there to be appreciated, not judged. It’s a form of self-expression, a way to say something without words. And at the end of the day, we should all feel free to dress in a way that makes us feel confident, comfortable, and uniquely ourselves.
Here’s to wearing what you love and loving how you feel in it.
