The Autumn Shift: A Smarter Way to Dress This Season

Kath Power and Prue Webb on resetting your wardrobe with intention this autumn.

By Kath Power and Prue Webb

The shift from summer into autumn always feels like the biggest change of the year. One minute we’re in dresses and sandals, and the next there’s a cool change in the air, and suddenly it’s that familiar thought: I have nothing to wear!!!

Rather than panicking and rushing out to buy a whole bunch of new pieces, this autumn we’re encouraging you to take a more strategic approach to setting up your wardrobe for the cooler months. Look before you leap.

Before you shop, start in your own wardrobe. Do a little curation. What did you genuinely love wearing last season? What pieces felt like you? And just as importantly, what didn’t you reach for? What feels tired, dated, or no longer aligned?

This small stocktake makes all the difference.

Next, think about the different parts of your life that require outfits. Where are you actually spending your time over the next few months? Create a simple checklist of go-to looks that support those moments.

Are you heading out for more dinners as the evenings cool down? Make sure you have enough outfits that feel elevated but still effortless. Are your weekends spent at kids’ sport? Check that your casual layers feel pulled together (and warm enough). Working in a corporate role? Ensure your tailored pieces feel updated and ready for the new season.

When you understand what you already have and where the gaps are, you can shop with purpose. No overwhelm. No random purchases. Just thoughtful additions that make everything else in your wardrobe work harder.

Below are some of the pieces we’ll personally be investing in this season, after doing our own wardrobe stocktake.

Have fun with fashion, and don’t underestimate the power of a good outfit!!!
