The Wardrobe Edit’s Kath Power believes “Balance is about embracing the full picture”

Power by name, powerhouse by nature, the real deal in style, motherhood and business.

Tell us about your family…

My family is made up of my two kids, Teddy, aged 9, and Ellie, aged 7. They’re at such a great age – so much fun and such good company. I’m married to my best friend; we’ve been together since we were 19, so we’ve really grown up together, which has been amazing.

What was your biggest adjustment when becoming a mum?

The biggest adjustment for me was realising I couldn’t just race out the door whenever I felt like it!

Everything suddenly required planning, whether it was getting the kids ready, managing their needs, or figuring out how to leave the house without taking a million things with you. It was a wild adjustment, but also such a fun time.

How do you manage the juggle when it comes to trying to do it all?

Managing the juggle is a constant work in progress! I try to be really intentional with my time, planning ahead and letting go of the idea that I need to do it all perfectly. Some days flow better than others. My husband is a huge help with school drop-offs and pick-ups, which makes a big difference, and carpooling with other parents for extracurriculars has really lightened the load. I’ve also learned that sometimes, near enough is good enough.

What is the best thing about being a mum?

The best thing is all the little moments, like chatting about their day, laughing together, or just quietly watching them discover the world. Those moments are so special. It’s incredibly fulfilling knowing I’m their safe place, their biggest cheerleader, and the person they come to for comfort.

What is the biggest challenge you experienced when becoming a mum or whilst being a mum?

One of the biggest challenges has been dealing with mum guilt, especially when I’ve had to be away for work or take time for myself. Even when I know it’s necessary, there’s always that tug in my heart, wondering if I’m missing something, or if they’re missing me.

What surprised you the most when becoming a mum?

How much fun it is! I’ve basically created two little mates to hang out with, which is amazing. As the youngest child, I always hated being alone, and now I’m never by myself ha! It’s such a joy to have these little people to share life with and experience everything together.

What do you wish you knew before becoming a mum?

I wish I’d known just how quickly it all flies by. People say it all the time,  it sounds like a cliché, but it really does catch you off guard. One minute, they’re babies, and the next, they’re off to school or talking about their own plans. It’s the most beautiful and bittersweet part of parenthood – how fast it all goes.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself or others?

I’d take the pressure off myself when it came to breastfeeding. I assumed it would come naturally, for me and the babies, but it was a real challenge. I wish I’d known how common that is, and I would’ve been much kinder to myself in those early days.

I’d also remind myself there’s no one ‘right’ way to be a mum. You find your own way, the one that works for you and your family. And truly, ‘fed is best’ deserves more airtime. It would’ve saved me so much unnecessary stress.

Do you have any tips or tricks to manage the day-to-day juggle?

Plan ahead, ask for help, and don’t be afraid to cut corners here and there. Oh, and get everyone in the family on the same page by using a shared digital calendar (like Google Calendar). It’s a game-changer for managing pick-ups, drop-offs, and appointments. You and your partner stay in the loop, and it avoids the “oh no, I forgot I’m going out for dinner with friends tonight” moments. Plus, it helps everyone feel a bit more in control of the day-to-day chaos!

How do you manage your time to fit in career, being a mum, relationship and time for you?

It’s definitely not always easy, some days feel like a real juggling act. Sometimes it means logging back onto my laptop after the kids are asleep or getting up early to squeeze in a bit of exercise. But one thing my husband and I always make time for is having a coffee together in the morning. It’s our way of connecting and checking in before the day kicks off.

Who is in your village and you couldn’t live without?

My village includes my husband, our siblings, and the kids’ grandparents. But what makes it really special is the group of friends we’ve had for years, who are now parents too. We’ve been through everything together, from 18ths to weddings, and now parenthood. It’s a beautiful full-circle moment to be raising our kids alongside each other. A special shout-out to my business partner and long-time friend, Prue. We support each other daily in juggling our families and our business (The Wardrobe Edit), our two biggest loves.

The 5 things in your bag you can’t leave home without

  1. My Mason Pearson mini hairbrush – it’s compact but works wonders.
  2. Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm in ‘So Glossy’ – the perfect everyday gloss.
  3. Malin + Goetz oil perfume – I love how subtle and fresh it is.
  4. A reusable water bottle – hydration is key, especially on the go.
  5. A mini protein snack for a quick energy boost – I’m loving the KIC (Keep It Cleaner) protein bars at the moment.

Your favourite holiday spot is… place you stay… because… and when did you first visit?

Since having kids, Fiji has become our absolute favourite holiday destination. We stay at Vomo, it ticks every box for both us and the kids. We usually travel with another family whose kids are the same age as ours, it’s been a total game-changer and turned into a really special tradition. Everyone has someone to hang out with, and we all genuinely enjoy ourselves. The mums get some well-earned downtime, and we still get plenty of quality family moments too. We first visited in 2023 and honestly wish we’d discovered it sooner. Kids’ club and smoothies on demand – what could be better?

Why do you love this place?

We’re beach lovers and sunshine seekers, and Fiji really delivers on both fronts. Add in a kids’ club that the kids actually beg to go to, and honestly, need I say more?

What location is on top of your wish list to travel to next?

Top of the list is Italy. My family is from Italy, and I’d love for the kids to experience the rich culture and beauty of Europe. I just know they’ll fall in love with it like I have.

What is your favourite brand and why?

Camilla and Marc, an Australian brand I absolutely adore. Their statement pieces are bold yet timeless, and everything is so beautifully crafted. Their pink shearling shoes? Unreal. Such a standout.

The trend you’re loving right now

Unexpected colour combos, it’s all about playfulness and pushing boundaries. Think burgundy and blue  – colours you wouldn’t usually pair, but they just work. It’s fun, fresh, and creative.

The trend you can’t get on board with

Skinny-leg jeans. We’ve all been loving our wide-leg, relaxed-fit era, and now skinny jeans are creeping back? No thank you. Absolutely not!

What’s your latest brand discovery?

Emerson Studios, a Melbourne-based label founded by the amazing Clare and her small team of women. Their pieces are designed to last, with a real emphasis on quality and longevity. Everything feels beautifully made and thoughtfully created.

Where do you do most of your fashion shopping?

Incu is my go-to, such a gorgeous edit of both established and emerging brands under one roof. I also love shopping pre-loved. My favourites are Love It Longer and Selling Your Wardrobe – the thrill of finding something unique is the best.

What does a healthy lifestyle mean to you?

To me, a healthy lifestyle is all about balance. It’s not about restriction or perfection, it’s about what works for you.

What do you do to keep your body moving?

I love a good power walk, it’s when I do my best thinking. I leave the phone behind and really take in the world around me. It’s like a reset for my mind. I also do three Pilates classes a week and I’m obsessed with Athletica, it’s reformer Pilates with a cardio twist and I love the burn!

What are your top 5 tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle?

  1. Carve out time for you, even if it’s a coffee with a friend or a solo walk.
  2. Drink lots of water.
  3. Move your body daily, even if it’s just a short stretch.
  4. Stay connected, nurturing your relationships is everything.
  5. Get enough sleep. It’s boring, but it’s non-negotiable.

What are your non-negotiables when it comes to health and wellness?

Daily movement, lots of water, and a regular hit of girlfriend time – whether it’s a quick call, a voice note, or an in-person catch-up. That connection with other women fuels me.

What does the word ‘balance’ mean to you?

For me, balance is about embracing the full picture – nourishing food, regular movement, meaningful connections, but also a few drinks, fun nights, and chocolate when you feel like it. It’s about living fully, without guilt.
