CorePlus Founder Amy King on raising three kids while navigating today’s tech-driven world

Amy shares her perspective on parenting, wellness and helping her kids choose real-world experiences over screens.

Can you tell us a little about you and your family:

I’m the founder of CorePlus and I have 3 beautiful kids.

What was your biggest adjustment when becoming a mum?

The biggest adjustment was learning to balance my time and energy. Motherhood changed my perspective on priorities in a beautiful way.

I think it’s absolutely a juggle but working this out and making sure to make time for yourself is important.

How do you manage the juggle when it comes to trying to do it all?

It’s a constant work in progress, but I rely on routine, a supportive network, and keeping my focus on what matters most each day.

What is the best thing about being a mum?

Watching them grow. I’m so lucky to be part of their journey.

What is the biggest challenge you experienced when becoming a mum or whilst being a mum?

The biggest challenge was letting go of making sure everything is just right — being present becomes more important.

What surprised you the most when becoming a mum?

How you can fit so many things into one day.

What do you wish you knew before becoming a mum?

Each stage is so different and goes so quickly.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself or others?

I’d tell myself to worry less and trust my instincts more. The small things work themselves out.

Any advice to manage the day-to-day juggle?

Definitely! I believe in creating structured routines, delegating where possible, and taking small breaks to recharge (and trying to fit in some time to exercise most days).

How do you manage your time to fit in career, being a mum, relationship and time for you?

I prioritise time blocks in my day. Setting boundaries helps, too. I also have a fantastic support system, which makes a world of difference.

Who is in your village?

My husband, family, close friends, and my CorePlus team. They’re all an essential part of my journey, providing encouragement and support.

How do you help your kids keep their eyes up and stay present, especially with so much technology around?

It’s a whole new world and a new learning as they get older. We’re not trying to be perfect and aim to meet in the middle — so they have devices for messages, FaceTime and chats, and know the things that are not appropriate (YouTube, Roblox, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.). For us, it’s less about strict rules and more about small habits that remind us to look up and be present.

A few things that help in our house:

  • No iPads unless we’re on a flight or travelling long distances in the car.

  • At restaurants, we choose books, card games, drawing and talking.

  • I chat to them about why it matters — it reminds them to think about other ways to have fun.

  • I check myself too. I have to show them what that looks like, so I don’t have social media accounts (closed them down 2 years ago) and try to be present.

It’s never perfect, but we keep trying each day.

Do you have any simple rules or habits at home to keep screen time balanced?

We stay aligned on what they know they’re allowed to to do when it comes to screen time. We try to get outdoors as much as possible, giving them healthier alternatives or choosing real life connections as opposed to being on a screen.

How do you encourage your kids to choose real-world moments over scrolling?

Lots of activities. I recently learned how to play chess, so this has become something they love. We have a board game cupboard in the living room, so anytime they say they’re bored I encourage them to play a game. It’s a challenge and it’s been really tricky, so it’s about providing alternatives when they need them.
